It’s all part of his £10,000 fund-raising attempt for Safe and Sound Derby, a charity that is dedicated to helping children and young people at risk of abuse and sexual exploitation.

Last week, the Chief and his cycling entourage rode through near constant rain across South Derbyshire, clocking up 70 miles and sailing past the £1,000 mark.

The push continues today, with the group setting off from Matlock police station and winding their way north.

They’ll be taking the scenic route through the Chatsworth estate and on towards Hathersage, before tackling the Snake Pass and reaching Glossop later today.

They’ll then turn and head back south and visit a number of towns and villages en route to Buxton for the return leg.

Mr Creedon said: “Last week, we rode for 70 miles across relatively flat roads, but through pouring rain.

“Today we have glorious sunshine – but some gruelling hills to tackle instead.

“I’ve been buoyed by the support and encouragement we have had not just from those within the force, but from the public too.

“We are doing this to raise money for Safe and Sound, and I am grateful to everyone who has donated. I’m still quite a way off my £10,000 target, though, so if you can spare a few pounds, please do, so we can continue to protect our most vulnerable people.”

Every penny raised in the challenge will be donated to Safe and Sound. The charity helps vulnerable young people, with the aim of protecting them from exploitation, and strives to raise awareness of the signs to look out for in cases of grooming and sexual abuse.
