Enterprising pupils from Matlock took part in an annual competition to showcase their business ideas.

Highfields students attended the 2011 Young Enterprise Company Competition Awards held at New Bath Hotel in Matlock Bath.

The five teenagers – Alex Harker, Matt Wilkinson, Kathryn Harper, Ashleigh Elliott and Emily Kiernan –have been running their own company called Maximise.

The pupils showed off their design skills by producing a GCSE revision CD-ROM guide for the contest.

Pupils have to elect a board of directors, raise share capital and market and finance a product of their own.

Chris Woodhouse, Young Enterprise West Derbyshire Area Board Chairman, of Monyash, said: “These young people set up and run a Young Enterprise company as a school extra curricular activity, as well as studying for GCSEs or AS Levels. In doing so they learn hands on business skills and develop innovative and enterprising approaches to creating a product or service.”
