Record crowds flocked to Bonsall for the annual World Hen Racing Championship at the weekend.
Around 400 race-goers packed The Barley Mow pub to cheer on feathered athletes as they pecked, clucked and flapped their way over the finish line during a series of heats.
And this year’s winner, Cookie, made light work of the opposition with a winning time of 8.9 seconds.
Master of ceremonies Jon Barry said: “Cookie won two years ago and came second last year, and so has gone down into hen racing history.
“The whole thing was brilliant, we had record crowds, there were at least 400 people. We had a record number of entries as well, there were nearly 40 hens took part.
He added: “Some people think you can just turn up and the hens will race, but you’ve got to train them a bit first, otherwise they’ll just get scared and fly off.”
