Pupils from across the county tested their knowledge of books during the Derbyshire Literature Challenge.

Derbyshire County Council organised the event in which 25 teams of up to four students pitted their wits in the competition’s final.

They attempted to answer 100 questions on books ranging from classical literature to modern children’s tales at County Hall in Matlock.

The winning team was St Thomas More Catholic School – Science College, Buxton, and joint second was awarded to teams from Highfields School in Matlock, and Derby High School.

Cllr Mike Longden, said: “We want all county students to develop a love of books and reading because it equips them with skills for life.”
