Restaurant marks a decade

AN INDIAN restaurant marked ten years in business by inviting over 500 guests for a complimentary meal.

Shalimar, at Darley Dale, served a lip-smacking selection of Eastern cuisine over the past five weekends to distinguished guests to mark the special occasion.

Regular customer Sandra Owen was in attendance during the last weekend of service.

She said: “It was absolutely full, and it was a really good afternoon. We have been eating there for eight years.”

Founded by Ali Mahmood and Sajjid Hussian, the restaurant and takeaway was opened in late 2001 by the Duke of Devonshire.

The founders have put their secret down to locally-sourced ingredients with traditional Indian cooking methods.

The same chefs have also worked at the restaurant on the A6 since it first opened.
