AFTER bad weather caused some of Bakewell Carnival’s key events to be cancelled, organisers are pleased to announce that they will be returning very soon.
The children’s sports day, Jack Russell race and tug-of-war will be making their long awaited come back on Friday 14 September at Bakewell recreational ground.
Carnival organiser Denis Mooney said: “It was a great shame we were forced to cancel these events earlier in the year.
“We absolutely wanted to get them back on, though, as they are extremely popular and people come along from all over – especially for the terrier racing.”
The events are to be scheduled an hour apart – in the hope they will ‘flow nicely’ – with the children’s sports commencing at 6.30pm, the Jack Russell race at 7.30pm and the tug-of-war to finish at 8.30pm.
Organisers say that any dog small enough to fit in the trap will count as a Jack Russell and while there is no entry fee – charitable donations are welcome.
Denis said: “It’s fantastic that these much-loved events are back on.
“All we’re doing now is keeping our fingers crossed and hoping for some good weather.”
