Santa Specials to go-ahead despite theft

A KIND-HEARTED donor has ensured a Christmas celebration will take place- after thieves stole expensive equipment from a vintage railway.

Volunteers at Steeple Grange Light Railway in Wirksworth were devastated when they discovered an expensive generator had been stolen- and feared the attraction’s annual Santa Special would be cancelled.

But an anonymous donor came forward to provide a new generator so the popular festive treat, which will see youngsters enjoying train rides into Santa’s grotto on Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 4pm, can take place.

Volunteer John Woodward said: “It caused us some concern as we didn’t know how we were going to replace it but thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor the Santa Specials will go ahead.” Tickets cost £4 from the Engine House.
