Seven people had to be freed from their cars by firefighters following a two-vehicle smash in Darley Dale.
Six people were taken to hospital following the head-on collision, which happened on the A6 Dale Road North yesterday at about 3.45pm.
Some of them were reported to have “life-changing injuries” and one was said to be in a serious, but not life-threatening, condition.
A spokeswoman for Derbyshire police said the crash involved a Peugeot 306 and a Toyota Yaris. It is thought the driver of the Peugeot was taken ill at the wheel. He and five other people were taken to Northern General Hospital.
Police said there were three people in the Peugeot and four in the Yaris – including three elderly people.
A spokeswoman for Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters freed all seven people by 4.50pm. The road was reopened several hours later.
