Matlock Smedley Street Business Group is hosting a 1950s-themed street party.

Matlock folk can enjoy another night of late-night shopping galore this Friday during Smedley Street’s fourth annual Vintage Summer Social.

Local businesses will be staying open for customers until 9pm with free parking at the County Office car park and there will also be free food and tastings, special offers and discounts and classic car shows on offer.

The street party launches a weekend of activity on Smedley Street as there will also be a Parkfest event taking place at Sparrow Park on Monday 29th August, organised by Catherine Rawas at the Council.

Spokesman Liz McKenzie said: “One of the best things about our life here in Matlock is the sense of community and the proliferation and variety of businesses. Smedley Street has come alive over the last few years and we want to celebrate in style - hence the vintage theme.

“It’s an event that aims to bring together the diverse and creative businesses while providing a fun evening out for customers and locals. Twelve businesses will be taking part and they will be joined by Matlock Meadows Ice Cream.”

For those wishing to kick-start the weekend early, Bella Figura will be hosting a ladies’ VIP preview afternoon from 1.00pm onwards with scones, tea and fizz as well as 10 per cent off handmade clothing and commissions, end of season sale rail and free vintage sunglasses with purchases over £50.

Beautique will be offering free vintage hair and make-up from 5pm, 10 per cent off all bookings and retail products on the day, a prize draw and complimentary fizz.

Among the other businesses opening until 9pm will be AG Gallery, giving customers a chance to view new jewellery over a glass of bubbly.

Designate will be open from midday onwards for opportunities to buy beautiful handmade products and enjoy tasty home-cooked food. Later in the evening, there will be retro nibbles and live entertainment from Kitty Katz and The Atomic Reactors.

As well as the above, Armitts will be showcasing their wide range of locally-sourced ciders and beers and all businesses will be offering promotions.

Visit each participating venue and be entered into a prize draw to win £100 to spend at any of these local businesses.
