Silver taken from church

Precious silverware was stolen from a Peak District church.

Burglars took expensive items from St Martin’s Church, The Nook, Stoney Middleton, at sometime between 8.30am on Sunday, August 28 and 8.30am on Sunday, September 4. Items including several chalices were stolen from the safe. Officers are investigating whether the burglary is connected to a similar incident at St Peter’s Church, Pindale Road, Hope. The church was broken into some time between 9am on Saturday, July 2 and 10am on Wednesday, July 27. Around 15 items were taken from a safe, ranging in age from 1662 to the 1970.
