Birchover Carnival fought back against the rain and gloom to unleash a riot of colour and chaos last weekend.
People thronged to the carnival on Saturday, July 16 for a heady day of music, fun and laughter.
A carnival committee spokesperson said: “Despite the many setbacks and appalling weather Birchover Carnival again proved a very popular, unique and non-profit making, village and community event which could not be dampened by the weather.
“The morning had started gloomily with heavy rain and the Carnival looked in jeopardy. However, the skies brightened just in time for the procession through the village.”
The Freaks in the Peaks performed outside The Druid and The Red Lion, their own interpretations of traditional Welsh border morris dances. Also adding a traditional carnival atmosphere was the well known Organ Grinder, Matthew Cooke and his mechanical monkey, Simon.
Ashover Band led the carnival procession through the main street and included a colourful array of locals and visitors dressed in various fancy dress costumes and floats.
The Carnival King and Queen were also in attendance and there was entertainment including various fun rides, stalls, activities and displays for both adults and children on the village playing field.
