A soldier from Darley Dale is playing an important role today.

Coldstream Guard David Lochrie, 43, will be on the door at Westminster Abbey.

His role, as security for the event, will be seen by millions across the world during the television streaming.

His parents Veronica and John Lochrie, who live in Darley Dale, are looking forward to seeing their son on television.

Veronica said: “We are both really proud of him.”

Mrs Lochrie said David, a former pupil at Darley Church Town School and John Turner School, had always wanted to join the army and his job has seen him serving in Iraq.

He will also be helping to organise a garden party to mark the national celebration.

David is currently stationed at Kingston upon Thames, where he lives with his wife and two children, but often visits the area.

Mrs Lochrie said: “It’s a huge thing for the country and David has a big role to play. We can’t wait to see him on TV.”
