Stepping up fitness opportunities in the Dales this year

Weeks after being named one of the most active places in England, the Derbyshire Dales is stepping up its fitness campaign.

A new Walk, Jog, Run group is launched in Matlock by Derbyshire Dales District Council today led by a qualified jog leader.

Designed as a workplace jogging group, but open to everyone – particularly beginners – the group meets for the first time near the Hall Leys Park tennis courts at 5pm.

Part of the Jog Derbyshire ‘Jog into January’ programme, it’s an eight–week course with a target for participants of being able to jog for two miles at the end of it.

Councillor Jennifer Bower, Chairman of the community committee, said: “I really would encourage local people to give this a try.

“To start with, we’re only looking at an easy warm up followed by a mix of walking and gentle jogging, then a warm down. A homework session each week will help those taking part to build up their fitness.”
