DERBYSHIRE Times reporter and cyclist Jon Cooper is urging people to join him by snapping up entry forms for the DT and Pelican Cycles’ 50-mile Flagg Challenge ride to support Chesterfield’s Ashgate Hospice during the charity’s 25th anniversary.

Pelican Cycles, of Chesterfield, has already stepped in to help sponsor and support this year’s event and entry forms will soon be available from the hospice, the Derbyshire Times and Pelican’s shop.

Jon, who will be taking part in the sponsored ride on July 28, said: “Last year’s charity ride was a huge success and we raised well over £7,500 and this year we’re hoping to top that to boost our 25/25 Appeal which we hope will see DT readers raise £25,000 for the hospice in its 25th year.”

The ride starts from Ashgate Hospice, goes through Cutthorpe to Baslow, on to Ashford-in-the-Water and takes in Sheldon, Flagg and Monyash, Birchover and Stanton-in-the-Peak before coming back in via Edensor and Chatsworth. There will also be refreshments and goody bags for every rider who takes part.

This year’s event will also include a smaller route for more modest riders and families to enjoy.

This year the hospice needs to raise about £3m towards its running costs, so the Derbyshire Times is not only helping to organise its second bike ride for the charity but has also launched a £25,000 appeal running through the year with support from our generous readers.

For a £20 entry form, sponsor sheets and map contact Emily Evans, at Ashgate Hospice, on 01246 568801 or emily.evans@ashgatehospice.nhs.uk, or Jon Cooper on 01246 504524 / 0780 350 5731 or jon.cooper@derbyshiretimes.co.uk.
