Theft of metal from station

Metal thieves raided a yard in Wirksworth and stole car parts used in vital fire service training.

Scrap metal was taken from the fire station’s training compound in Harrison Drive, some time last week.

The cars were to be used in the fire service’s training exercises.

Vehicles have been stripped of their roofs and body parts which police believe has been stolen for scrap metal.

PC Doug Eyre, of Wirksworth Safer Neighbourhood team, said: “If the fire service don’t have any cars to train with this could have an impact on everyone who has an accident.

“These cars were to be used for training purposes for crews to improve their skills in getting people out of car accidents.”

Witnesses should contact police on 0345 123 33 33.
