Tiler’s road ban after second drink driving offence

A DALES tiler has been handed a long road ban following his second drink-driving offence in seven years.

Police saw a car pull out from near the Bell Inn pub, Cromford, at 11pm on September 18 and followed it.

Becky Mahon, prosecuting, told Chesterfield magistrates there was no evidence of bad driving but it was stopped in The Hill and driver Peter Slaven smelled of drink.

He was unable to provide a breath sample for medical reasons but he gave a reading of 200mgs of alcohol in 100mls of urine - almost double the 107mgs limit.

Self-employed Slaven, 58, of Hawthorne Drive, Cromford, admitted drink-driving.

He committed the same offence in 2004.

The bench banned him from driving for 40 months and fined him £115, with £85 costs.

“There isn’t really any mitigation for the offence but he was fully co-operative with police,” said Phil Bloore, for Slaven.
