Tomlinson PC faces trial

A police officer is set to face trial over the death of Ian Tomlinson.

PC Simon Harwood will be charged with manslaughter for hitting Ian Tomlinson with a baton and pushing him to the ground during the G20 protests in London in April 2009.

Father-of-nine Tomlinson, who lived in Matlock until he was 17, had been making his way home from work when he was pushed from behind. The 47-year-old died three minutes later.

Three weeks ago an inquest jury decided Tomlinson was unlawfully killed.

On Tuesday, May 24, a summons charging PC Harwood with the manslaughter of Ian Tomlinson was obtained from the City of Westminster magistrates court. He will appear before the court on 20 June.
