The Olympic Torch is coming to Dales big time this summer and it promises to be a great day for the region.
In Matlock will be taken to Highfields School and up to the Heights of Abraham; it will be paraded down the Chatsworth House driveway and will also be going through parts of Darley Dale and Bakewell.
We are very lucky to have been honoured in this way and it is a reflection of the emphasis put on sport and tourism in our community.
Those that have chosen the route for the iconic torch obviously want to highlight the importance of the Dales in the region.
The staff and pupils at Highfields School are rightly proud of being singled out for a visit as they have embraced London 2012 and truly got involved with promoting the games and their potential legacy for us all.
I am sure thousands of people will be lining the streets on the big day in June and those of us lucky enough to be in Matlock town centre will have a brilliant view as it travels along Causeway Lane and out towards Darley Dale on Bakewell Road.
Let’s make it a day to remember everywhere.
