A PROPERTY agency in Bakewell has been expelled from the Ombudsman’s scheme for failing to pay out an award to a customer.

The decision was taken against Letzlet Ltd, trading as Beechwood Lettings on Matlock Street, after the agent had failed to pay out £1,226 – which included £976 rent owing – and had delayed paying rent to a complainant’s landlord’s bank account on 12 occasions over 19 months.

It failed to co-operate with the Ombudsman’s investigation and also breached the The Property Ombudsman’s (TPO) code of practice by not having a complaints system in place.

Gerry Fitzjohn, chief operating officer of TPO, has said the Ombudsman recently made a renewed call for all letting agents to be regulated like residential sales agents.
