VISITORS to Bakewell Town Hall are going up in the world after a new lift was installed.
The long-awaited elevator is the final stage in a major £250,000 project to renovate and improve the building.
Mayor Alyson Hill said: “The town hall is the prime venue in Bakewell, the commissioning of the lift will now allow the building to be used by everyone, to its full potential.”
The project to renovate the building began last June.
It has seen work to the roof, windows and walls carried out as well as greatly improved disabled facilities.
The renovation was paid for with a loan from the Public Works Loan Board and a grant from the Peak District National Park Authority.
Cllr Pamela Russell of the town hall renovation committee added: “It has been of prime importance that the work has blended the new with the old in a sympathetic manner to enhance the ambience of the building.”
An official opening ceremony to mark the completion of the make-over is set to take place at a later stage.
