Police have closed part of the A38 this morning due to a collision involving several vehicles.

Shortly before 5am today (Tuesday, November 10), officers received a report that a Mercedes van had broken down on the A38 at its junction with the A61 in Alfreton and that a recovery vehicle was on route.

At around 5.10am, the Mercedes was struck by another van, which is carrying chemicals. A third van collided with the first two and then a lorry collided with all three vehicles.

Police and firefighters remain at the scene and traffic is being diverted.

Three people have suffered minor injuries and have been taken to hospital.

At 10am the fire service said that the road remained closed northbound while recovery work continued.
