Christmas came early for one lucky shopper – after winning a festive trolley dash.

Poppy won the competition organised by Matlock Derwent Valley Lions Club at the Co-op Supermarket in Bakewell Road, Matlock.

Unfortunately she had to send David Hoyle as her running substitute and he romped home with £133 of goodies; including the most important item – a turkey.

Second prize of a Co-op Hamper went to Tim Jones, third prize of a meal voucher for the Market Place Restaurant in Cromford was won by Betty Hunt and the fourth prize winner of a footstool from Hadyn Stanley Furnishings was Dawn Kinley.

The proceeds of the dash will be going towards the fund to help relocate Darley Dale Scouts and Guides Association headquarters.

Lion President Wendy Sanderson said: “I should like to thank everyone who bought a ticket and to the prize donators.

“We are always happy to support local groups in any way we can.”
