Three hundred horse riders have raised £8236 for a cancer charity.

Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity, based in Sheffield, received the funds after a sponsored 12-mile ride around the Chatsworth estate on June 22.

Event organiser Vicky Windley, who owns Matlock Equestrian and Country Supplies, chose to help the charity after her grandmother Madge Kirkham was diagnosed with cancer last year.

The annual horse challenge will return next year in aid of Parson House Outdoor Pursuits Centre, which helps underprivileged children enjoy climbing, abseiling and canoeing.

The event takes riders through parts of Chatsworth that are normally off-limits to horses, save for a few well-connected pass-holders.

Entry forms for next year’s event on July 8 are available from Matlock Equestrian on the Brookfield Industrial Estate, Tansley.
