VIDEO: On the pull for Celebrating Cromford

Community members flexed their muscles as part of an annual celebration.

This year’s Celebrating Cromford weekend was jam–packed with entertainment for the whole village to enjoy.

Nic Barfield, one of the organisers, said: “On Friday evening, the opening challenge event of the Celebrating Cromford weekend saw Cromford’s girls and women pull a 1919–vintage Garrett Steam Motor Tractor from the Market Place up Cromford Hill to the Bell Inn.”

The engine was kindly provided by traction engine enthusiast Ian Strange, of Tansley.

On Saturday, teams competed to pull a canal boat along Cromford Canal.

Nic continued: “An eight–man team from the Greyhound Hotel narrowly beat the Boat Inn, whose six pullers included honorary Cromfordians from Texas and Canada.

“The Greyhound’s winning time was 31 minutes 41 seconds to haul the Friends of Cromford Canal’s 21–tonne historic narrow boat Birdswood along the mile–long course from High Peak Junction to Cromford Wharf.”
