Peter Keeble of Matlock Bath sent this image of the view from the old Gritstone Quarry at Alport Height near Wirksworth which he visited with the Matlock U3 Walking Group .
He said: “The tower of rock in the foreground may be a quarryman’s joke or this particular column might have been left because it was not good enough as building stone. Another theory is that it might have been used as a gantry for lifting heavy blocks of stone.”
