Rescuers rushed to the Peaks to save an injured walker.

Team members from both Edale and Buxton Mountain Rescue Teams were involved in an incident yesterday to recover an injured walker from Cow Low above Castleton.

They were called at 3pm to a 74–year–old man who had slipped on the wet ground and fallen down the gully side fracturing his hip.

He had come to rest on a steep slope with his daughter, who was with him, concerned that he may slip further down the hillside.

He was given medical treatment by ambulance staff and team members before being moved to a more secure location.

An RAF rescue helicopter which had been called by the ambulance service then winched the gentleman on board along with a team doctor before flying them to the North General Hospital in Sheffield.
