The Matlock Mercury performed a public service by highlighting the financial gain which developers expect to make once their schemes have planning permission.
As you reported, it would seem that it has only taken the developers 12 months to abandon their plans for Halldale Quarry, and the site is now up for sale, with an asking price of £10m.
The Mayor of Matlock is quoted as saying ‘It’s a shock’. It was certainly a shock to myself and other residents of Oaker and Snitterton, who had reservations about the developers scheme and went along to the planning committees to register our concern, only to find the committee seemingly determined to support the developers scheme.
You would have thought that the planning committee might have been better occupied making sure that the developer was serious about his intentions for the site.
