HIDDEN GARDENS: Encouraged by the warm sunny weather, hundreds of people visited Wirksworth this weekend to view the 23 gardens which were opened to the public.
Home-made cakes, plant sales, Pimms, and music added to the enjoyment of visitors and the hard work of local gardeners was rewarded by the positive comments and inquisitive questions of garden lovers. Jane Aitman, who led the team which organised the weekend, said she was overwhelmed by the response and thanked all of those who generously opened their gardens for public scrutiny.
Jane added that the town was buzzing with many local traders reporting increased sales and this event had now become an established part of the town’s annual programme. More than £3000 was raised which will be used to support various charities and local organisations.
