NEWS on whether a local school will be closed has been delayed by one week.

The schools adjudicator, who is to rule on the future of Stoney Middleton Primary, has postponed the decision due to a heavy workload.

The adjudicator has already visited the school to hear the testimonials of parents and former pupils, and was due to announce the decision tomorrow.

Interested parties have now been advised to expect the decision next Friday.

Derbyshire County Council is seeking to close the school due to falling pupil numbers.

The decision was referred to the adjudicator after a school organisation committee failed to reach a unanimous verdict on the village school's future.

Visit www.matlockmercury.co.uk for details of the decision as soon as it is announced.
