We are lucky to have some fantastic pictures of Matlock carnival.
The first three pictures are courtesy of Janet Gregory, originally from Matlock but now in Whatstandwell.
This picture shows a watery theme with chariots, sea horses and mermaids.
A fantastic float at the 1954 Matlock Carnival.
The carnival was a popular affair with most of Matlock involved in someway or another.
The carnival procession would lead along Causeway Lane to Hall Leys Park.
Here there would be children taking part in sports day and hundreds of entries for the flower and vegetable shows.
The picture shows the Derbyshire Stone float.
The headquarters for the Derbyshire Stone Company was on Snitterton Road which is now the Bank of Scotland building.
This picture is a wintery float from 1953. Janet is on the float along with Sandra and Maureen Alsop and a little boy called John.
Sandra and Maureen were the daughters of the caretaker from Derbyshire Stone, who together with his wife, helped make the floats.
This Cinderella Float is from 1951.

Matlock 1949
This image, supplied by Brend Land, nee Williams, is at Matlock carnival around 1949. The picture was taken opposite the Ritz Cinema at the corner of Hall Leys park.
The carnival was run by the British legion and even a day of rain did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of revellers.
Left to right shows Pam Thompson, Janet Vrenals, Brenda Barwick, Hazel Gaunt, Brenda Williams and another girl.

Ex-service men at Park Head
These ex-service men are raising money for the carnival by selling tickets for a balloon race.
The pictures have been provided by Joy Barber who has an extensive collection of old pictures and postcards.
We will be displaying them on the nostalgia pages for everyone to see.
