CHILDREN at Bakewell Methodist Junior School recently got acquainted with some feathered friends during a bird-themed morning.
Stuart Slack, Tony Botham and Charles Woodiwis of the Bakewell Birding Group visited the school and put up bird boxes all around the perimeter of the school site.

As well as the bird boxes, a raptor post, feeding station and bird table were also installed.

Pupils from all age groups had a lesson in map reading and learned how to check for the prevailing wind direction.

Children then recorded the number and types of birds they had spotted.

Ann Hodgson, governor of the school and fellow birder group member, said: “We’re really grateful to the birders for their work and in particular Charles Woodiwis, a local craftsman and old boy of the school, who made and donated all the equipment which has been made from expensive timber.”
