PUPILS in Dales schools have been praised after making huge strides in reducing their waste thanks to a two year Derbyshire Wildlife Trust project.
The Waste Away project saw 12 schools aiming to reduce by at least 50 per cent the amount of waste they send to landfill, as well as changing attitudes to what they throw away.

And one of the schools, Matlock Bath Holy Trinity Primary, succeeded in reducing its waste by more than 70 per cent.

Others taking part included Youlgrave’s All Saints Primary, Longstone Primary, Lady Manners and Bakewell Methodist Juniors.

Project leader Nell Taylor said: “Waste Away has been a great success, with all schools making massive reductions in the amount of waste going to landfill.

“The great news is that our work to develop a waste minimisation strategy with each school means that they will continue to find ways to further reduce waste.”
