Derbyshire Dales held its first sports awards last week.
The winners were:
Senior club team of the year – Bakewell Mannerians Rugby Football Club 1st XVThis year's champions of the Derbyshire and North Leicestershire League, the team achieved promotion to the Midlands League 5 East.
Despite not having a club house or a second team the club has members aged from 17 to 51.
Junior club team of the year – Clifton Cricket Club Kwik Cricket TeamUndefeated this season, winning the Derbyshire Dales Kwick Cricked league, the Nottingham and Derby youth league knockout cup and the Champion of champions tournament.
School team of the year – Anthony Gell Under 15s Girls' Basketball TeamUnbeaten in Derbyshire, the team were runners up in the English Schools National Competition in the U15 category and reached the semi finals in both the U16 and U18 age groups.
They are also winners of the Nottingham central league in the U18 category and 3rd in the Senior women' league.
Club of the year – Parwich Tennis ClubEstablished 9 years ago, the club has 30 adult members and 58 juniors, there are 2 mixed teams, 1 ladies and 1 men's team playing in the Derbyshire League.
The club is mini tennis accredited and 75% of the village school attend coaching. The club also has a 'Rusty Ladies' for women returning to tennis.
The club has achieved a semi final place in the county wide Lawson Wood Trophy for the first time this year.
Sportsperson of the year – Christine HowardA member of the England Team in the World Mountain Running competition in New Zealand, the winning England Team in the Snowdon International Races in the last 2 years and third lady overall.
Ms Howard was a member of the Great Britain team in the European Mountain Running championships in the Czech Republic this year and was selected for the Great Britian Team for the International Mountain Running Championship.
Ms Howard is the current Derbyshire Cross County Champion and the current leader of the English Fell Running Championship.
First in the Stratford Marathon in May and 4th overall, Ms Howard is also current Police Maraton Champion, Police Lady Champion at cross county running and has qualified for the European Police Marathon in Istanbul next month.
Ms Howard runs for Matlock Athletics Club.
Disabled sportsperson of the year – Tom WilsonMr Wilson represented Great Britain in the Cerebral Palsy World Championships and is currently training for the Paralympics in Beijing.
Mr Wilson is a pupil at Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School, Ashbourne.
Young sports leader of the year – Stephanie Jackson-Horner and Martin ClarkeA year 12 student at Highfields Schools in Matlock, Miss Jackson-Horner has just qualified as a Community Sports Leader level and has coached other students from over 13 feeder primary schools.
Actively involved in the Step into Sport initiative Miss Jackson-Horner coaches football at a local club, has also gained a badminton coaching award and is Highfields School Ambassador for Sport.
Mr Clarke is in year 13 at Highfields Schools Matlock and is also a Community Sports Leader level 1.
Mr Clarke has recently completed the Gold Award for the Step into Sport initiative having completed 200 hours of voluntary service.
Mr Clarke volunteers at Matlock Athletic Club under Randall Tassell, and has taken his National Governing Body level 2 award in Athletics and is now a registered coach.
Performance coach of the year – Chris MartinA member of the British Canoe Union and a past performer at National Level, Mr Martin formed Matlock Canoe Club in 1984.
A full BCU level 3 and World Class Start Coach for the East Midlands region, Mr Martin has coached Fiona Pennie to Canoe Slalom World Silver Medallist and has been Great Britain Junior Girls coach for over 10 years.
Contribution to school sport – Rod LeachMr Leach played an outstanding role in the development of physical exercise and school sport at helped Anthony Gell school become the first school in Derbyshire to gain Sports College status.
Mr Leach was also a significant driver of the project to build the new leisure center in Wirksworth.
Service to sport – Ken Wilson Mr Wilson started playing for Wirksworth Cricket Club in 1954.
He has been a Committee member since 1961, match Secretary since 1968, Treasurer since 1987 and was made President in 1990.
In his acceptance speech, Mr Wilson thanked the members of the Wirksworth Cricket Club for their help and support over the years.
Mr Wilson said his first game of cricket for Wirksworth Cricket Club was on the day after Roger Bannister ran the four minuet mile.
Junior sportsman of the year – Josh Moody and Sam Mak (joint winners)Mr Moody was second in the English Schools Athletics Championship in 2006 in 800m, recording a time of 1 minute and 57 seconds. He represented Great Britain in Italy in June and finished in 1st place.
Mr Mak was the sole representative from Great Britain at the 1st World Junior Wu Shu Championships held in Kuala Lumpar this year and won a silver medal in the U15 category.
This is the first award ever by Great Britain on the world stage.
Mr Mak competed in the Straight sword event and won the Gold Medal.
He also won a Silver medal in the cudgel event. Mr Mak has made British Wu-Shu history by winning the 1st world Junior Under 15 All Round Champion. He also won 4 Gold Medals at the 2006 English Championships, 4 Gold Medals at the 2006 Dutch Open Championship and 4 Gold Medals at the English National Championships in 2006.
Junior sportswoman of the year – Ellie Koyander and Daisy Brooks (joint winners)Miss Koyander has represented Great Britain in a slalom skiing and is the British Women's Moguls Champion, Australian Junior French Moguls Champion, Scottish Women's Moguls Champion, British artificial Slope Female Champion, Gold Medallist Lecht Moguls Snow Championship, Gold Medallist Lecht Big Air Snow Championship.
Miss Koyander recently represented Great Britain at the Junior world Championships in Russia in the under 21 category.
She is on programme to represent Great Britain at the next Winter Olympic Games in 2010.
Miss Brooks started windsurfing at the age of 9. Last year she won a Silver medal at the Youth and Masters Windsurfing Championships in Weymouth.
She also finished 2nd British Lady in the Olympic Class Spring Series and 5th Girl at the World Championships in Sicily in August 2006.
Miss Brooks is on programme to represent Great Britain at the 2012 Olympics.
The winners will be put forward for the Derbyshire County Sports Awards, and the winners from there go on to the BBC East Midlands Sports Awards.
