RIDERS will swarm to Thornbridge Outdoors, near Ashford in the Water, this Sunday (December 7) for the Midlands Cyclo-Cross Championships – with local beer up for grabs for the winners.
Thornbridge Brewery is to provide the winners with its priz-winning Kipling beer to celebrate with on the podium as opposed to champagne in a bid to recreate the spirit of cross events in Belgium and Holland, where the sport is huge and where beer is expected by successful riders rather than bubbly.
More than 200 competitors are expected to take part on Sunday for the annual event which this year has been organised jointly by Matlock Cycling Club and Darley Dale-based cyclo team Zepnat.
Racing starts at 10.30am.
