MATLOCK golfers have been in winning action with their team of James Twigg, Paul Mellor, Liam Sinnott and Nick Kay lifting the prestigious Drabble Cup at Erewash Valley Golf Club last Sunday.
To make it a clean sweep, Liam carried off the prize for the best gross while Paul recorded the best net score of the 172 competitors taking part

Thunder, lightning, heavy rain and hail contrived to make the course unplayable for the late starters
in Matlock Golf Club's medal Two.

However, after much deliberation, the competition stood, Dave Taylor winning Division One with 65 from Rob Tait and Mike Rapkins.

Pete Shield shot 66 to take Division Two from Ian McKay, while the evergreen Alan Turner took Division Three with 68, from Martin Coupe and Richard Strutt.

Phil Lowe shot the lowest round of the day (63) in Division Four ahead of John Wheatcroft and Mark Wells.

Medal Three was contested in much kinder weather last Saturday with Liam Sinnott (68) taking Division One from John Gibbons and Nick Kay.

Andrew Leach won Division Two on a countback from Barry Smith and Bob Cash while Dave Burgess was the victor in Division Three from Christopher Woodhouse and Barry Shaw.

Stephen Bailey won Division Four, a shot ahead of Mark Barwick with Dick Lowe in third.

There was a large field for the May Day Bank Holiday Stableford which saw David Insley and Baden Edgson win the top two divisions, while juniors James Wain and James Flint won divisions three and four respectively.

Division Three was particularly close, with four players amassing 38 points, the result dependent on a countback.
