ON a glorious day, and in complete contrast to last year’s finals day of torrential rain, Matlock again faced Derby for the County Cup, but the scorching weather was ultimately the only difference as Matlock swept aside their city rivals who only managed to impose themselves on the game for 15 minutes of the second half.

Despite the heat the match set off at a lively pace with both sides on the attack, but as Matlock's pack were again dominant play edged toward the Derby try line.

An excellent Ben Wragg tactical kick from the back of a scrum and pressure from the Matlock forward's resulted in a penalty 15 metres out, and virtually in front of the posts.
