DALES motorcycle ace Mick Andrews has had a long and successful career recognised by a number of international accolades.
He and wife Jill travelled to Spain where his contribution to off-road motorcycling was celebrated with an award.
They then headed to New Mexico where he was honoured for his contribution to off-road motorcycle sport in the USA.
During his stay in Albuquerque, the 65-year-old competed in three events – a cross-country event, a classic trial and a classic motocross – and won all three competitions in his class.
Jill and Mick then returned to Spain where he competed in a two-day international classic trial near Barcelona before heading off to Gran Canaria as guests - along with the wife of the legendary Mike Hailwood - at a two-day classic show.
Paris was the next stop for the couple and there they were guests at a classic legends show.
Now back home, Mick is taking it easy over the festive period, recuperating from an operation on his arm.
Andrews’ career began at the age of just 15 and during his teenage years he competed in both trials and motocross before turning his focus solely to trials at the age of 21.
As a motor mechanic he was even able to create his own machine, the Mick Andrews Replica, which was built in conjunction with manufacturers Ossa and has become one of the most prized bikes in classic trials today.
And classic trials – vintage and Pre-65 – remain Andrews’ passion and he still regularly competes in Europe and the USA even in his sixties.
