JOSH Moody prepared for his GCSE results by getting the one he wanted in the Taddington Fell Race last week.
The 16-year-old’s winning time of 22.48 was a comfortable 45 seconds quicker than runner-up Steve Watson, the winner of this year’s Buxton half marathon.

Mark Nolan was third, a further 20 seconds behind Watson in 23.53.

Dark Peak’s Mick Stento
n was the first veteran, completing the course in 24.00, while Matlock AC’s very own seasoned campaigner Mick Moorhouse crossed the line in 26.40, just ahead of the first female finisher Cath Lamplugh, of Buxton, who posted 26.54.

Second female was Matlock’s Jenny Reed in 27.21, which was no mean feat just 48 hours after having taken part in the uphill only English and Welsh trials at Snowdon on Sunday, where she was second in the U23 age group.

The trial was a selection race for a European mountain running event in Slovenia in October.

Jonathan Doull was second in the U17 age category at Taddington, in 31.55.

l MATLOCK AC youngsters John and Elizabeth Webster were the sole Matlock entrants in the annual Bradbourne Fell Races on Sunday.

Team mate and English Junior Fell Race U12 overall leader George Tighe was unable to take part in what was a championship event, but the brother and sister were fourth in 11.27 and sixth 7.50 in the boys U10 and girls U8 races respectively.

Edward Watson and William Kennedy, of Kirk Ireton, were 11th and 12th in the boys U10 event.

The senior event, over 5.1 miles, was won by Staffordshire Moorlands runner Mat Clowes in 32.35, with North Derbyshire’s Suzanne Roddis the first female in 42.53.

l IN the Pilsley Fell Race, on a 5.5-mile course around Chatsworth, and with a climb of 675 ft, Matlock’s Richard Bradbury was ninth in 42.24, Mick Moorhouse 24th in 44.58, Steve Holt 112th in 55.27, Bill Willis 128th 58.40, Paul Keetley 135th in 61.07, and Jim Titterton 137th in 61.18.

Tommy’s Fell Stars runner Stuart Bond was first in 37.25, and 146 runners finished the event.

l THIS Saturday, the Longshaw Sheep Dog Trials, held near Grindleford, include a 5.5-mile,/ 650ft fell race starting at Longshaw Lodge at 11am.
