MATLOCK'S Lee Shunburne claimed a second top three placing in seven days in the 11th round of the SRAM Notts and Derby Cyclo-Cross League at Stockley Park.
Short steep climbs followed by quite long, gradual descents typified the course, with a techical woodland section that had become waterlogged and would be covered as fast on foot as it would in the saddle.

From the start a quartet of current champion Ben Eedy, Shunburne, Londoner Graham Briggs and Heanor's Rob Parkin quickly gained the lead with a group of local riders not far behind chasing them.

Most of the spectators gathered to watch on the climbing sections, so they did not fully appreciate why the field of over 100 riders was stretching out behind the leading group.
