Matlock achieved their first win of the season on Sunday, only to taste defeat the following day.
Repton provided Matlock's ‘home’ venue to entertain Coventry, straight after hosting the celebrity filled wedding of Darley Dale's Holby City and Strictly Come Dancing star, Tom Chambers.

A holidaying wealthy club chairman Dave Frost was not impr
essed when informed.

“If he is from the Matlock area, why didn't he stay to watch the game?

“I'm sure Patsy Kensit would have found it far more exciting than anything in Emmerdale, Bo Selecta or Lethal Weapon 2!”

Patsy, one of the groom's guests, might have ended up refereeing as another celebrity, Dave Barnard, arrived late to officiate and his co-referee did not arrive at all.

With Matlock's Martin Beeson taking the whistle, with the spectating Don Cameron then filling in before Dave's arrival, the comebacking Adam Ellis restored the home side's lead at the end of the first quarter after Richard Massey's early conversion.

The second quarter saw Ellis score a further four times and effectively end the game.

The eventual 12-6 victory was aided by two further goals from Jim Evans and efforts from Richard Massey and Phil Elwell.

Celebrations were added to by the tremendous refreshments provided after the game at the local Green Dragon pub.

Suggestions that it was the leftovers from the earlier wedding were heavily denied.

The trip to Leicester proved less successful, ending in a 16-8 defeat and exposing Matlock's defensive frailties when defending the counter attack.

Highlights included good goalkeeping displays again from Martin Beeson and Andy Massey, with the latter also scoring two excellent pit goals, and further conversions from the ever improving Rob Lightfoot and Richard Flint.

Some unusual refereeing led to a number of exclusions including two permanent ones for Leicester's Lee Torrington and Phil Jenkins.

The final words on the week's events were left to Dave Frost, speaking from his secret holiday destination.

“It has given me an idea. Strictly Come Water Polo.

“It would give these celebrities something to do and I'd certainly like to judge Rachel Stevens and Alesha Dixon having a go!”

Matlock travel to Heanor on Sunday for their penultimate game of the season against local rivals South Derbyshire.
