HAVING won the toss and naturally batted first the visitors, on an excellent pitch, will have been disappointed with their modest score.
Luke Boden, sharing the new ball in the absence of Stephen Lowe, got the crucial early wicket of the highly exp
erienced Martin Brandrick for just a single.
Only Darren Cundy with 46 made any significant runs as the home side's six bowlers all got wickets.
They were well supported by sharp fielding and good catching.
Three spinners were deployed: Jack Ritchie took 2-19, Jack Currell 2-35 and Zaheed Javed 2-30. Of the pacier bowlers Adie Kershaw and Grant Boden took one each while Luke Boden finished with 2-18.
After tea Wirksworth & Middleton seemed in no mood to hang around- at least in Javed's case.
He hit four boundaries and a six before being bowled for 24 out of a stand of 31 in under five overs.
Thereafter things were more circumspect as David Greatorex and Andrew Redfern shared an unbroken partnership of 122 to see W&M to their third win of the season.
It was not always scintillating cricket but it was certainly effective as neither player offered a real chance.
Greatorex made 55 and Redfern 38 and they were helped by the opposition conceding 35 extras.

Division 9N
Calow 48 all out (5pts) lost to Wirksworth & Middleton 2nd X1 126 all out (27pts) by 78 runs
AN OUTSTANDING bowling performance by Matthew Daldorph (5-5) and Joe Bradbury (3-5) gave the seconds their third win of the season against the team lying second in the table at the start of play.
Earlier W&M's own batsmen had struggled on a tricky wicket with Michael Jefferiss top scoring with 29.
At 80-9, though, they were in some trouble but a last wicket flourish added 46 as Ian Peacock (21 not out) was joined by number 11 Bradbury, enjoying a fine all-round match, who hit 24.
It was at least something for the bowlers to defend and they did so to great effect with Max Marshall and a run-out completing the rout.
Bayley Cup 2nd Round
Belper Amateurs 1st X1 230-6 lost to Wirksworth & Middleton 1st X1 231-8 by two wickets.
A BRILLIANT hundred from Zaheed Javed, well supported by a half-century from Adie Kershaw, led W&M into the next round.
Stephen Dymond's unbeaten 89 was the highlight of the Amateurs' total as the visiting bowlers toiled in the heat.
Jack Currell and Jack Ritchie both took two wickets and there was one each for Javed and Kershaw.
A good opening partnership for W&M blunted the home bowling attack before Kershaw joined Javed in the crucial stand.
The latter scored 123 but when he was out the game was not yet won, but Ritchie's mature 15 did as much as anyone to guide W&M into the third round.
