Darley Dale 129-5

Elton 129-5

THE Station Road ground was the venue for the first of the 2011 season’s Darley Dale vs Elton bragging rights match.

Darley’s skipper Craig Elliott won the toss and elected to bat first on an unusually hard track. Darley’s openers were pinned down by Elton’s opening bowlers Sam Lightfoot and Jimmy Marsden. Both bowled with good pace and accuracy. A captain’s knock of 62 from Elliott and a cameo innings from Horton allowed Darley to reach a competitive total of 129 from their 36 overs.

In reply, Darley’s opening bowlers Briggs and Shaw unleashed a fiery spell of bowling to eliminate the chance of scoring quick runs. Stone (49) and number three Lightfoot (28) however held their nerve, saw off the openers and began to set about Darley’s total.

Quick wickets fell thanks to the disciplined bowling of Elliott and wily fox Holmes and Darley looked set for victory. However some lusty blows from Marsdon left the scores level at 129, producing a tied match.
