Ashford-in-the-Water moved up to second place in Division Two with a convincing win over Weston Park.
The visitors won the toss and decided to bat on a hard, dry wicket and made a steady start before Adam Yarwood’s (2-22) pace removed both openers in quick succession.
Jatin Singh (36) looked cool and composed for Weston Park in hitting five fours and two sixes, but only Jerish Anthony (11) offered any sustained resistance as captain Pete Marsden (1-10) and the cunning skills of Kevn Rowney (2-24) gradually tightened the screws.
For the second weekend running, young Cameron Higginbottom (4-9) provided the coup de grace to a great team effort as West Park were all out for 106.
Ashford’s reply once again suffered a nervy start with the in-form Ben Drury dismissed for nought by Surendhar Raj (1-21), but James Bentley (13) and Higginbottom (18) saw the score through to 37 before they were both dismissed by Sharan Ramamoorthy (2-24). Sam Ellis was also needlessly run out without facing a ball, putting the game back in the balance with Ashford 46-4.
The nerves were calmed however as Oli Watson (10*) and Simon Davies (47*) put together the match-winning partnership with an unbeaten 62 to see the home side cruise home to an emphatic victory with 33 overs to spare.
Ashford move on to play Bakewell at the Rutland Recreation Ground next Saturday, hoping to continue their good run.
