In need of a win to preserve their place in Division Two, Bakewell suffered a batting collapse to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory against Sheffield University Staff CC 2nd XI.
Bakewell skipper Paul Fearn won the toss and decided to bowl.
An early breakthrough by Tom Ford (1-20) and an opening spell of dedicated line and length from Fearn (1-20) and genuine pace from James Young (1-29) left the home side on 44-4.
However, a rare bowling display from David Hadfield (4-24) proved to be a master stroke. His spell of medium pace frustrated the batsmen as they struggled to find runs.
At 97-8, De Silva (18) and Dilan Manchanayaka (10) came together to frustrate the good work of the Bakewell bowlers, but an inspired fielding change from Hadfield accounted for the dangerous De Silva in one ball.
Captain Fearn sacrificed a second spell and turned to Tom Hickley (2-20), and his wickets and a run out by Ford and Tann saw the home side all out for 115.
Bakewell sensed a much needed victory, but the quick loss of Lee Tann (4), Hadfield (5) and Matt Baker-Pearce (1) left the visitors reeling on 14-3.
James Wallace (27) and James Young (18) got their heads down and took the reply to 70-5. However, the leg spin of Maqsood (5-11) teased the remaining batsmen into losing their heads and playing across the line of the ball, and the visitors lost six wickets in quick succession to hand the home side an outright win by 39 runs.
