Children are going for gold

YOUNGSTERS are set to take part in a mini-Olympics event at Middleton Community Primary School today (Thursday).

Weather permitting, the event will run from around 9.30am to 2.15pm on Middleton Rec, off Porter Lane, or if the weather it wet, it will be held at the school itself.

All 84 children at the school, aged between 5-11, will compete in eight different athletic events. Medals will be awarded to the winner of each event, for each year group and gender.

All children will receive a tee-shirt, an official olympics flag, a well done badge and an Olympic torch medal.

Money to cover the costs incurred has come from sponsor money raised by Jenny Quigley and Liz Mountney, friends of event organiser Steph Spencer.

They very gamely completed the London 10K event on May 27, while dressed in Dalek outfits, on what was one of the most hottest days of the year. Sponsorship for the event has also come from DS Insulations.
