Clean sweep for Matlock girls at Mallory Park

Matlock CC’s under-12 girls produced a clean sweep of the medal positions in the Regional Youth Championships at Mallory Park on Sunday.

Amelie Wayte, Sarah Briggs and Libby Smith took first, second and third respectively after working hard together during their race in Leicestershire, part of the East Midlands Championship.

Earlier in the day Holly Hoy competed in the Girls’ U10 race and finished a clear winner, while Ben Mellor and Tom Woolf competed in the Boys’ U8 race, finishing third and fourth respectively.

Ellie Smith finished fourth in the U14 girls’ championship race after a close sprint finish.

Also on Sunday, Matlock boys put in a strong performance at the Altura Nutcracker Round 3 MTB event in Sheffield, on the site of the old Sheffield Ski slope.

Matlock’s Cameron Orr finished third with brother Reuben in 11th place.

Meanwhile, some of the club’s younger members competed against other local riders in the BSCA (British Schools Cycling Association) East Midlands grass track and MTB championships on Saturday.

Provisional top results from the grass track championship races were:

U7 Boys: 1 - Tom Woolf, Matlock All Saints Infants, 2 - George Parker, St Anne’s, 3 - Charles Ross, Bonsall Primary.

U9 Girls: 1 - Annabel Parker, St Anne’s.

U9 Boys: 1 - Finley Hill, Tansley Primary, 2- Oscar Atkinson, Lea Primary, 3 - Archie Mercer, Tansley Primary

U11 Boys: 1 - Sam Gould, Darley Dale Primary.

U13 Girls: 1 - Sarah Gould, Highfields.

U13 Boys: 1 - Henry Morten, St Thomas More.

U9 Girls: 1 - Annabel Parker.
