Colts cull Cobras in cup clash

Wirksworth Colts U16s 3

Cobra Oakwood 1

Some superb finishing from Wirksworth Colts’ attacking midfielders underscored this deserved cup victory.

After their second division visitors had struck the crossbar during Wirksworth’s slow start, Joseph Potts got the ball rolling when he beat his man with quick feet before dinking a sumptuous chip over the goalkeeper from the corner of the penalty area into the far side of the net.

This followed some impressive pressing from Connor Simms, the front man working tirelessly for the team, who provided the assist for the second goal shortly after half-time when his corner was headed home by Sam Paisley.

Scott Taylor then made the game safe 15 minutes from time when he showed exquisite close control to break into the Oakwood penalty area and chip the out-rushing goalkeeper for his eighth goal of the season for school and clubs.

Although Oakwood pulled a goal back with the last kick of the game, Kyle Pearce had another excellent game in goal for Wirksworth who have now won four of their seven games this season.
