Crucial stand sets Darley on way to cup win

Darley Dale 138-1 beat Grindleford 130-9 by nine wickets

Darley Dale travelled to Grindleford in the Longstone League Cup on a dark and cold Monday evening to play their third fixture in as many days.

Darley won the toss and elected to bat first on a damp wicket. Openers Parks (87) and Hartley (37) put on 122 in a magnificent partnership.

Both batsmen played with incredible confidence and played some elegant and fine looking shots to put Grindleford’s bowlers under immense pressure.

In reply, Horton struck early but Brown (37) and Smith (32) began to play some big shots and were keeping up with the run rate.

The introduction of Jamie Watts won the game for Darley as he bowled with excellent pace and dismissed the big hitting Brown with a splendid yorker. Watts then went on to to dismiss Smith and ended the innings with four wickets.

Watts was supported well by the accurate bowling of Holmes, who took three key wickets and had the Grindleford batsmen in all sorts of problems.

Darley now face Calver in the next round and will hope to get through to the final at Bakewell on July 1.
