Derbyshire’s new overseas signing Imran Tahir says he is overwhelmed to be ranked the best bowler in the world in both Twenty20 and one-day international cricket.

The 37-year-old leg-spinner surged to the top of the ODI rankings after South Africa’s 5-0 series win over Sri Lanka, having already hit number one in T20. He said: “When I started playing, I never thought I’d be the top bowler. It’s down to all the hard work I’ve put in. It’s a really good achievement. I’ll try and stay in the number one spot as long as I can, but there are some other brilliant cricketers out there.”

South Africa’s ODI captain AB de Villiers said: “The secret is he doesn’t bowl any bad balls any more, which makes him really difficult to play.”
