Early exit from Orme Shield for Ashford

Orme Shield

Ashford in the Water 93–8 lost to Elton 97–4 by six wickets

Elton gained immediate revenge for their Longstone Cup exit by knocking Ashford out of the first round of this year’s Orme Shield.

Asked to bat, Ashford had reached 21 before Jamie Carrington (15) became the first of three wickets to fall on that score as Sam Lightfoot (3-23) struck.

However, it was again Julian Henson (31) who rebuilt the innings patiently, although substantial support only came from Will Brocklehurst (16).

Paul Carson (3-23) was the other main wicket-taker.

Elton’s reply began steadily as the home side again bowled tightly to restrict scoring opportunities thanks to Kevn Rowney (2-15).

Craig Elliott (24) and Rob Lightfoot (22) had pushed the score on to 45 before the innings began to wobble.

A couple more quick wickets from John Carrington (2-13) saw the score reach 57–4 and with the run-rate reaching over a run a ball, Elton were sweating. But Jonathan Heath (28 not out) took control, striking three sixes to and see his side home.
